We have put together the following tips and strategies to assist our families with the transition to distance learning.
Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you need additional information.
ESTABLISH A ROUTINE: Continue normal routines at home such as getting up and ready for the day. If you are home with your children and working from home, you will need to create a schedule that works for your family such as: children have school in the morning for an hour or two, then you work for a set amount of time, have lunch, kids have quiet time (watch a movie, read, electronics) while you work (up to 2 hours), have a family snack, have children complete chores and help you prepare dinner, and enjoy family time together in the evening. Don’t forget to include daily physical activity - this can be inside or outside. Stick to normal bedtime routines for everyone’s sanity!
SET UP A SCHOOL/WORK ZONE: As you consider where to have your student work each day, think about what is most conducive to learning and interacting with their teachers. All teachers will have office hours and scheduled live Zoom opportunities. Students should not Zoom from their bedrooms and should ensure the background visible to others is appropriate for students and teachers. Limit distractions such as phones, social media and TV.
HELP YOUR STUDENT TO BE ACCOUNTABLE AND RESPONSIBLE: Complete assignments and activities to the best of their ability and with academic integrity. Teachers will be available for questions and help, if needed. Each teacher will share the best means to communicate with them.
TAKE BREAKS, MOVE AROUND: Distance learning is NOT like being in a classroom setting. Having set times for breaks to move around (think recess or PE) is healthy for everyone. It is good to take breaks from screens, worksheets, textbooks, and sitting.
BE PATIENT AND FULL OF GRACE: Reach out to your child’s teacher if you’re struggling, stay connected to your local church or connect with our Trinity family for ongoing support. Recognize that this is unchartered water for all of us. When you find your patience waning or frustration setting in, hit pause and take a few deep breaths.
SPEND TIME IN GOD'S WORD, PRAY: Spend time in God’s word or listen to some worship music (K-Love can be found at 98.9 FM, http://www.klove.com/ , or on the iHeartRadio app.), and pray. God knew we would be here, and He knows exactly what you’re feeling. Who best to comfort you than our Heavenly Father.
BE FLEXIBLE:. None of us know what lies ahead. We will keep you informed as we learn more about what school will look like as time marches on.
DOWNLOAD ZOOM. Teachers will be using Zoom for video lessons and class meetings. You can connect with zoom by CLICKING HERE .
STAY SAFE: Ensure your family follows guidelines to slow the spread of COVID-19 by avoiding social gatherings of 10 or more. Students are going to miss their friends, and we, as adults, need to help them stay within the boundaries of social distancing.
