Trinity Lutheran ChurchSchool didn’t know what to expect.
Neither did Lutheran Family Service.
One thing was for certain – there was a need for professional counselors in our school.
This past year, Lutheran Family Service placed two professional counselors – Nathan Grewe and Hannah Fowler – on our campus.
It was a first for Trinity and Lutheran Family Service (LFS).
“We have been in a school before, but it was all billable services, and no school counseling preventative services,” shared Jamie McWade, who serves as a licensed mental health counselor and clinical supervisor at LFS.
The contracted 16 hours of service per week was pushed to the limit.
This past school year, LFS provided 64 individual consults with students, along with 32 staff and parent consults. Nathan and Hannah also spent time in each of Trintiy’s classrooms, equipping and providing resources to students.
“Nathan and Hannah have worked diligently to create a social emotional learning curriculum for kindergarten through eighth grade students and were able to see a positive impact of their classroom time, and individual time with students,” shared Jamie.
Planning is in the works for next year – with Trinity possibly adding more hours of service.
“What a blessing it has been having LFS on our campus this past year,” shared Pastor Schilling. “It’s a great need for our school children.”
