Trio of Tigers enjoying World Series run

Monday was the first day of school for Trinity Lutheran students.

But, for Logan Chantos, Paxton Smith and LySanias Broyles, it was an excused absence.

The trio of Tigers are playing in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

“I’m not ready to go back to school. I’m really enjoying it here,” shared Logan. “It’s a wonderful place.”

There’s been a lot to like for Logan, Paxton and LySanias and the Davenport Northwest Little League team.

Davenport Northwest is 2-0 in pool play and hasn’t allowed a run entering Wednesday’s 2 p.m. game on ESPN against Henderson, Nevada, which also is 2-0 in pool play.

The winner of Wednesday’s game advances to the United States championship game on Saturday.

“Pitching has been good, bats have been hot,” shared Logan, who plays third base for Davenport Northwest. “For me, its just thinking in my mind, just get on base and help the team in any way I can. It felt good to make a nice play at third base on Sunday, which was cool, because I knew players from the Milwaukee Brewers and Atlanta Braves were at the game watching.”

As much excitement as Logan and his teammates have had on the field, there has been plenty of fun, including some learning, off the field.

“In our dorm, where we stay, there’s a team from Japan, Dominican Republic and Alabama,” shared Logan. “We’ve been able to learn some of their language. The Japan team is really funny, and I’ve made a lot of friends off the Alabama team.”

The biggest joy, though, for Logan has been the pre-game ritual.

“Before every game, we have a dance battle with the team that we are playing,” Logan shared. “I do a backflip. It’s kind of become a tradition.”

All in all, it’s been quite an experience.

“It’s pretty cool,” shared Logan. “All the kids, and even some of the adults, want your autograph and want to take pictures with us. It makes you feel like a superstar.”
